  • Seeding will consist of 1/3 based on your rank from the 2010 HARP Championships, 1/3 based on your rank (based on all players registered) on the leaderboard based on points alone, and 1/3 based on your rank of the average leaderboard points.(the later two will change until June 10) The ranks will be averaged then reduced by the "seed bonus", which was earned through performance in the 2010 Speccy Tour. The lowest total gets the highest seed. If there's a tie, use 2010 HARP championship rank, then leaderboard point rank to break it. If there is still a tie, whoever registered to participate first will get the higher seed.
  • All criteria are ranked out of total number of registered participants.

Final Ranking

Not determined yet

NOTE: Ties are broken based on performance in the game they were eliminated in. If there's still a tie, then it will be broken based on previous games until the tie is broken. If that doesn't happen, then they will be ranked equally.

Rules

Tournament format

  • This will be a "College World Series" style tournament, explained below.

Championship and Consolation Brackets

  • The first few rounds will consist of a double-elimination tournament.
  • If you do not lose a game, you will remain in the "preliminary bracket"
  • If you do lose a game, you will go to the "elimination bracket".
  • If you lose two games, you are eliminated from the tournament.

Preliminary Finals

  • The winners of the championship and consolation brackets will meet in the preliminary final, which will be two games.
  • In the preliminary final, the winner of the consolation bracket must win both games to advance, while the winner of the championship bracket only needs to win one of the games to advance.
  • All rounds up to this point will consist of games selected at random from those the contestants selects.

Grand Finals Bracket

  • Winners of the preliminary finals will advance to the single-elimination "grand finals" bracket.
  • All grand-final rounds will consist of two games, which will be selected from games the finalists select, one from each finalist, as described below.
  • The winner of the grand finals bracket rounds will be determined using a percentage scoring algorithm.

Game selection

  • To determine games, players may select up to 4 games that you would like to play.
  • All games chosen by a contestant must be from different genres.
  • Any game or it's clones(meaning it's a straight clone or it's for another system that has the exact gameplay) that was chosen from a HARP championship in the last ten years may not be picked for this championship.
  • Players may change choices until the registration deadline on June 10th.
  • Players may choose games where highest score wins, or least time wins. (or most time wins!)
  • On June 11th, the coordinator will randomize the games chosen by using random.org using a seed consisting of the last two scores from HARP's regulation play combined. EXAMPLE SEED: The most recent recording has a score of 65,535 points and the second most recent recording scored 104,000, so the random seed would be 169,535.

Until the grand finals...

  • No more than two games(one game if there are more than 8 players) from any one participant may be selected for the tournament.
  • No more than two games from any one genre may be selected for the tournament.
  • Games from the same genre may not be selected in consecutive rounds. (or the same round in a "two game round")
  • Any game that violates the above rules will be thrown out and the next game the randomizer selects will replace it.

Grand Finals bracket

  • Starting from the grand semi-finals, the games will be selected by choosing the first game listed in the competitors game list. If that game was played in a previous round, that game is thrown out and the next game listed will be played.
  • After this filter, both games will be played even if it turns out that both games are in the same genre.

Disallowed games

  • Parsec (TI/99, HC2010)
  • Mega Man 4 (NES/PS1, HC2010)
  • Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV (Genesis, HC2010)
  • Tetris Attack/Panel De Pon/Pokemon Puzzle League/Pokemon Puzzle Challenge (SNES/GB/GBC/N64/GBA, HC2010)

Game play

  • Play for seven days per round. There will be no breaks between rounds.
  • WolfMESS or Spectaculator will be the only approved emulators for this tournament.
  • Otherwise, all regular HARP rules(game speed, etc.) apply for the tournament.
  • The judges will be those who have registered for the tournament but are not playing in that particular matchup. (so if there are 4 players, and 1 is playing against 4, then 2 and 3 are the judges) However, if a participant confirms their opponent's score, then the score is considered legal barring a major violation discovered by the judges.

Schedules

  • Round 1 - 6/19-6/25: Preliminary quarter-finals
  • Round 2 - 6/26-7/02: Preliminary semi-finals and elimination semi-finals
  • Round 3 - 7/03-7/09: Elimination finals
  • Round 4 - 7/10-7/16: Preliminary finals
  • Round 5 - 7/17-7/23: Grand Final
